Technical Engine number location help please

Hi, new to the forum. I have an 89 Panda Cote Sauvage here in France. Quite rare now I think and am trying to put it on a classic registration to make MOT less frequent. The paperwork needs an engine number and I simply cannot find it! I see this question has been on this forum a few times but none of the responses has helped me so far. Seems idiotic but it is simply not there! Wondered if anyone has any ideas? Be really grateful.
It has the 156a2000 engine according to the vin plate.....thanks in advance

its located just above the water pump at the side of the exhaust manifold on a flat bit of metal pointing upwards if i remember right. you may have to wire brush it smooth to see the numbers. its on the block, not the head. as i remember its close to the join when the head and block meet.

see here where the black arrow is, however i have found them to be on top of the water pump housing on that flat bit just above the black arrow.
