Technical Egr solenoid replacement

can anyone tell me if I replaced the EGR solenoid, would I need to do anything else? Someone said to me I would need to replace the EGR valve if I replaced the solenoid but that doesn't sound right to me and the garage said they thought the actual EGR valve was ok .. Got a near constant high pitch buzz failing solenoid sound that continues for a second or 2 tops after I turn off engine... Thanks

Which engine/ year? What error codes reported?

Hi, 2004 2.0jtd ... Long story but it's had issues with slight hesitation black smoke / rich fumes and I replaced the mass air flow sensor which turned out to be the wrong one I ordered off eBay...the garage diagnostic flagged up it was maf sensor for Euro 6 ... I replaced with correct sensor and it's running a lot better now but still this humm/buzz sound that remains for a good 2 secs after turn off engine... Cheers

This is a question for those with greater experiance of motors of this age. I thought engines of this age had vacuum activated egr s not electrical.
