Roof Bars - look tatty - anyone got any suggestions to renovate them?

I've got a Panda Eleganza which comes with the roof rails ( front to back ) fitted as standard. As a mad keen mountain biker, I bought the Fiat cross bars so I could fit a couple of Thule bike racks. No problem, and it all works well, however after a couple of years of use, the 'feet' of the cross bars where they fit on the roof rails are looking very tatty and the paint is coming off to reveal the metal underneath. I was thinking of taking them off and subjecting them to some black hammerite type paint, unless anyone else has a better idea?

i'd just say sanddown anti rust( zinc) primer, then just paint with normal black paint.

As i think hammite is a bit extreme.

spraypaint would be the best finishing paint, good rub down, prime, rub down, paint, rub down, paint, rub down, paint, rub down, paint, rub down, paint, rub down, paint, rubdown, paint, rub down, laquer, laquer, laquer, then use tin strips of rubber under the runners to stop the wear through the paint.
