Technical Rattle/Grinding noise

My Multipla 1.6 petrol has started making a rattle/grinding noise when accellerating from low revs and also on overrun at high speed. This is actually quite annoying in traffic on the motorway. It sounds almost like it's in reverse gear. Has anyone heard of this before?

Our Multipla has done this since day one. In fifth gear mainly. It sounds like, as you say, non synchromesh reverse and is really annoying on motorways.
Standard issue from what I can gather, serves us right for buying tarted up vans!
