General 500D door gap hinge re-alignment

Hi all trying to increase the gap on a 500d Door. Im hitting it with some timber and mallet leaving the door unlatched. Any other advise as to how this can be done minimising the risk of breaking the hinge. Any help ideas would be appreciated.

There is a tool to persuade te hinges. Long bar with a forked end. I wouldny hit it. It needs stesdy pressure to move the hinge / pillar.
