Hi all, after some advice please as to what to check on a 2015 Fiat 500x 1.6 diesel with push button start that will not start.
Car was running fine, parked up for one day and then the problem started. Doors open from the remote but when you press the start button, nothing happens, usually the display cluster would light up. Similarly pressing the clutch and the start button will not start the car.
The battery is only 6 months old and has been checked so is 100% healthy, this was changed as the start/stop had stopped working previously.
I have managed to get the car to start using a jumper cables from another car, and once running and jumper cables disconnected the car continued to run suggesting that the alternator is ok. However on just using the battery and a separate spare one, pushing the start button does nothing.
Any suggestions as to where to start looking to diagnose this issue please?🙏

If it starts with a jump-start then the problem is the "battery".

Since the battery is new and I guess in good nick, the issue might be that the Earth is on the wonk. The jump lead would have given the battery a new place to Earth to, which it might not have when it's left to its own devices.

You can test it for free by connecting a jump lead to the negative/black pole on the battery and then connecting the other end to something metal on the engine or gearbox (keep the cable out of any moving parts/fan etc.). If that allows the car to start, then it's an Earthing problem... probably the strap itself.
